1/ I recommended Miraheze to some folks, so I should probably make sure that it still works for me.

1/ I'm still keeping this wiki around.

1/ Updating the myndmess wiki with an interview with the Joplin founder (see myndmess:Joplin#Discussions)

1/ Updating this page just to make sure folks know I'm paying attention to this wiki.

1/ I just saw the big dormancy banner on top of this wiki. So I'm writing a journal entry.

1/ Well, arguably, I should have stopped by Mt Lassen on my way to Seattle this summer. Oh well. There were many free and open-source (FOSS) conferences that I've had to opportunity to Zoom into (and I even considered going to Los Angeles for SCALE, but so far, I haven't actually attended as many things as I've wanted to. In other news, I'm seriously bummed about Olivia Newton-John's death.

This is Lassen Peak blowing up in May 1915

1/ It seems to me that many more Californians should know about w:Lassen Peak.

1/ I'm thinking about attending some sessions at the LibrePlanet conference this weekend. Of course, that has me thinking about Code of Conduct and Bill of Responsibilities stuff again.

updated: 02:43, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

1/ I found some evidence that I really should get some more work done on the "Bill of Responsibilities" set of documents that I created. It's this email from 1996: "Direction of this list", Rob Lanphier ([email protected]), 1996-04-22 at 12:54am PDT. I don't know if I had the "electowiki:Code of Conduct" that I created for the mailing list back then, or if events in April 1996 inspired me to create a "Code of Conduct" for the mailing list. Anyway, it seems that the perfect "Code of Conduct" (that everyone should use) has been a problem since the advent of the Internet.

1/ Journaling while listening to the Sloop John B on my other computer. "HOIST UP THE JOHN B'S SAIL!!! CALL FOR THE CAPTAIN ... YADDA YADDA YADDA". See w:Sloop John B for more about this song.

November 2021

1/ I really should work on my "Bill of Responsibilities". I just came up with another one:

Use your inside voice

I'm going create this. I suppose this is November 14 in UTC, but it's still November 13 in PST.

October 2021

07:01, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

1/ I suppose it's the 20th of October here in San Francisco. Really, I should be getting to bed soon, especially because I seem to be making "anonymous" edits to this wiki when I should make sure I'm logged in as User:RobLa.

1/ we had the Miraheze board meeting earlier today.

08:26, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

1/ Back in August 2020, I created an article titled 2020 Trump and the F-Word, which I intended to use to finish copyediting a blog post that I made.[1] I never got around to copying the content of the blog post over to this wiki. Since the blog post isn't as important anymore, I'm going to redirect that page to this journal entry.

Also, I'm moving my #2021-01-02 entry into #2021

08:23, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

1/ I guess it's been a while since I've made an update here. Doing it now to keep my 45 day clock alive

1/ my mind is still blown that yesterday (August 8) was the 40th anniversary of Xanadu coming out in the movie theaters. I didn't actually see Xanadu until September or October, but there are many mysteries of my childhood that make total sense to me now. To be clear, Xanadu was a terrible movie, but I really thought the ELO side of the soundtrack was pretty good. I usually skipped over "Don't Walk Away", which wasn't a very good song. Well, it seems that the current owners of Xanadu movie copyright are hoping that it makes a kitschy comeback:

1/ I started to define my robcabulary. All because I was trying to define what "alternative rock" is to someone. They weren't from the midwest (i.e. the midwestern United States). Those of us from the midwest have opinions on this subject.

updated: 05:43, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

1/ I really shouldn't spend so much time on this wiki. electowiki might get jealous.

See Special:RecentChanges. I'm kind of embarrassed.

23:36, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

1/ I created User:ProblemRob, which will be for some of the times when I take my Miraheze board member hat off. I realize that as a member of the Miraheze board, I'm not going to be able to take off my board member hat very often when I'm editing the Miraheze-hosted wikis, but I like having a throwaway account associated with my name for testing purposes. Also, apparently, every single Miraheze-hosted wiki that I visit while I'm logged in is public information, thanks to this page: . The list is longer for User:RobLa, and it bothers me a lot, because the only reason why I visited some of the wikis on my User:RobLa list was because someone direct-messaged (DM'ed) me about abuse. I don't plan to respond to direct messages about abuse anymore.

1/ I made a blog post over on[2]. I don't think I want to use as my blogging platform.

1/ Most of us are still figuring out what to do with the C4ES forum. I should say more about that over on my electowiki journal for today#2020-06-28. (and I should fix the way that my new template for linking to my electowiki journal works: my electowiki journal for today#2020-06-28

"Template:electowiki journal" is for me to insert links to my journal

1/ I updated the MeWe page on this wiki with links to a few of the groups I've started. I just noticed that I need to fix the indent levels on my headers on this journal. Maybe that'll be my next edit....

updated: 20:42, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

2/ I updated this page mostly in VisualEditor. My goal is to make the journal entries portable between journals. Avoiding fancy templates and all, but it seems that VisualEditor doesn't handle the "see also: moo" style of indentation that is used below many sections on Wikipedia. Oh well...

updated: 00:04, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

1/ I was planning on editing this in VisualEditor today. Well, at least at first. Then I switched to source editing to insert ~~~~~. Then that didn't work, so I'm switching back. It turns out that if you switch back and forth between VisualEditor and source editing, it'll keep putting this around nowiki tags around it. I imagine that the Parsoid team is declaring war on ~~~~~ (I'm guessing they don't call themselves the mw:Parsoid team anymore). I'm bummed now because I didn't get my first journal entry in before the end of day UTC

2/ Anyway go see I got that in before EOD UTC....

3/ I linked to my Mastodon account. Whee!

1/ I did some editing on other wikis, and had a delicious breakfast and dinner from my lovely spouse (see my page on Facebook to learn more about her). I did a lot of shell scripting today, and I'm really starting to see how Perl scripting replaced Bash scripting as the preferred form of scripting in the mid-1990s. I've done so much Python scripting in the past few years that my Perl isn't as good as it used to be. We won't even talk about PHP

One of the other participants on the

Myndmess has an article on:

Myndmess Discord server

suggested I delete a few channels. Blasphemy!

Myndmess has an article on:

Update: 10:23, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

1/ Wow, I did way more editing tonight than I was planning to. Gahd.. it's after 3am here in SF. Why did I do this to myself?

Update: 06:58, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

1/ Technically, it's barely 2020-06-15, even PDT

Update: 07:06, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

2/ Now it's not even 2020-06-15 here in the Pacific Time Zone. That's ok. I did most of my editing today over on electowiki, where now I'm back to being the top contributor (in the last 30 days, at least). Not that I want that honor, but what the heck. I'm starting to have fun on electowiki again. There are other editors, but it's hard to see in the blizzard of edits I've been making lately:

Update: 07:14, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

1/ well, I should really be wrapping things up, but some of the orgmode/Zim integration has been distracting me for the better part of the evening. I wrote my electowiki journal earlier this evening, and I also sent an email to the C4ES forum for the first time in a while. There's some interwiki configuration changes I'm probably going to request pretty soon:

Update: 03:42, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

1/ Well, I noticed that I hadn't updated in a while. I fixed that (see my June 11 journal entry on myndmesswiki.

I started up a group over on MeWe fairly recently. If you're one of my friends over there, you might get an invite from me. Here's my profile link over there: .

Also, I've been thinking about watching Ozarks and/or Silicon Valley (the shows). I'm not sure if I want to watch them, though. More thoughts later.
